Risks of Care with Artificial Joints

Do you have an artificial joint? Don’t put it at risk!

Routine dental procedures may cause problems with your artificial joint. Fortunately, this can be easily avoided. We will consult with your Orthopedic Surgeon to see if antibiotic premedication is needed for you before your dental appointments.

If you have had joint replacement surgery-

Do you fall into any of the following categories:

  • Previous infections in your artificial joints
  • Have an inflammatory type of arthritis
  • Have type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes
  • Have hemophilia
  • Suppressed immune system
  • Malnourished
  • History of malignancy

Are you having any of these dental procedures?

  • Extractions
  • Periodontal procedures
  • Cleaning
  • Implant placement surgery
  • Root canal treatment
